Mark Anthony Darnell

Mark Anthony Darnell, born July 10, 1961, to Loretta Darnell and Larry Cofield, peacefully departed this world on Sunday, February 22, 2026, after battling many health issues.

Mark attended and graduated from Danville High School in Danville, Illinois, where he participated in many sports activities. He excelled in baseball and football, taking pride in his sportsmanship. He was well known in the community for his witty ways, good heart, and love for family and friends.

Mark enjoyed eating good food, listening to music, watching professional sports on television, and sitting around having a good time with others or simply by himself. Mark grew up in church and knew the Lord, especially from his upbringing.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles "Greg" Darnell of Covington, Georgia, his sisters, DiAnn Darnell and Marva Beasley, and his sister-in-law, Debra Darnell, all of Danville, Illinois.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his brothers Domanic and Derric Darnell, both of Danville, Illinois; Edmund (Anita) Darnell of Laurel, Maryland; an aunt, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and fond friends.

Among those holding his memory close are his two dear friends Smiley and Charles Hoskins, whose love, loyalty, and presence brought him comfort and joy throughout his journey.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St., Danville. A celebration of life will commence at noon Saturday at the
funeral home. Apostle Charles Hargrove Sr. will officiate.
